PAG 3. ADVENT CALENDAR

6 years ago we created the first Advent Calendar and since then it has become a tradition to raffle the jewels of our calendar on Instagram daily with you.

I have never been much of a chocolate lover (I have to admit that now I am a little more so). For this reason, in my house we have always replaced the typical Advent Calendar of chocolate bars with a homemade one, a large cloth with refillable bags, where my mother put every year candies and details. My two sisters and I loved that moment, since, together with the Advent Calendar, the countdown to Christmas. With the idea of sharing this moment of hope with all of you, the first CREU Calendar FULL OF JEWELS was born. You loved it! And to us even more with the welcome you gave him! From that year on, we made it an official CREU tradition.

Last year we started with a thought. We wanted to offer you to get your own CREU advent calendar with 24 jewels.

We didn't want it to be a throwaway Advent calendar. The first idea was to replicate the latest version of our CREU Advent Calendar (made of wood with 24 clothespins and 24 cotton bags with jewels hanging from them) in a small version. We needed it to be easy to ship and easy for you to hang at home, as ours weighed over 10 kg and was over 2 m! But we were not convinced by the idea because, even if it was a small replica, it took up considerable space and once the 24 days had passed, what would you do with it? So we started researching and thinking about other options. We had several ideas, but due to the complexity of the manufacturing process, we did not arrive on time. With great sadness, we had to accept that the CREU Advent Calendar would have to wait another year to come to light.

Today, with all the enthusiasm in the world, we can tell you that, WE DID IT! We announce that the CREU Advent Calendar full of 24 jewels intentionally chosen to pamper you and accompany you in the Christmas countdown is now on sale here.

But the news doesn't just stop here. Once the 24 days have passed, you can uncover the CREU Advent Calendar and turn it into a jewelry box/shelf.

The CREU Advent Calendar is designed and handcrafted in Barcelona. We have selected 24 jewels that you will surely love! We have not wanted to reveal the content of our Advent Calendar, since we want to surprise you every day with the chosen jewel. Practice patience, girls! For the most curious, we leave you here the 24 jewels included in the calendar. A selection valued at 700 € that you can get for 350 € when you buy the CREU Advent Calendar.

How did we create the calendar?

We started from the following premise: that it should not be a throwaway Advent Calendar, and that it should have a utility beyond its function as a calendar for those 24 days of the year.

We took inspiration from the arched Greek shelving and wall units that WE LOVE for the design.

Once we had the idea clear, we started looking for options to create it, quite a puzzle! The first option we considered was to print it in 3D, but we quickly had to find a plan B.

So an afternoon, having coffee with friends, I commented: “hey! I have this idea in my head. We have looked doing it in 3D printing, but it is very expensive and since it is a large piece (30 cm x 30 cm) we have to split them into 4 for printing. Can you think of another option?”

And my friend Iván, an engineer with experience in packaging creation and development, started thinking and quickly decided to join the project and help us.

From that moment, we did many tests in different molds, shapes, and masses until we found the definitive one. We made a silicone mold and used plaster. This is summed up in 2 lines, it has been many weeks of work and a lot of sweat to get there on time, but finally we can say that… WE GOT IT!
